Fundamentals of my work

I can help you heal. 20 years of yoga and meditation have illuminated for me the incredible power of the body-mind connection to bring us back to a state of health and inner peace that may have been distorted by traumatic events. My education as a marriage and family therapist gives me the framework of psychological understanding that when combined with my training in somatic and EMDR therapies, become a salve for healing.
I have experienced real results with my own personal challenges with trauma and anxiety by utilizing my combined therapy education and yoga training. I will teach you methods and create a safe space for you to do this powerful healing work. These techniques will teach you how to integrate your body’s innate ability to release trauma and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.
I will stand by your side while you encounter the patterns in need of changing and help you find peace!

My Methods

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.” EMDR’s protocols and procedures are well researched and can work quickly to help clients activate their natural healing processes.
EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. Just as when we cut our skin the body innately begins to heal the wound, EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events heal our mental trauma. “The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health.”

Somatic Experiencing

This method, developed by Dr. Peter A Levine, works from the premise that the traumatic event isn’t what caused the trauma, “it is the overwhelmed response to the perceived life threat that is causing an unbalanced nervous system.”

When we work with pain and trauma from a somatic perspective, it is unnecessary to relive difficult memories, but instead we look to the body’s wisdom in the form of sensations to better understand feelings and transform our habitual behavior patterns. “Somatic Experiencing® works to release this stored energy, and turn off this threat alarm that causes severe dysregulation and dissociation.”

Mindfulness is the practice and process of bringing one’s attention on experiences of thoughts, emotions, and sensations occurring in the present moment. This attention can be cultivated through a gentle, non-judgmental stance as the “witness” to one’s own state of being and can allow for a greater sense of freedom and peace.
